The Founding and Early Years
Ming dynasty, founded by Zhu Yuanzhang in 1368, is one of the most prosperous periods in Chinese history. After overthrowing the Mongol-led Yuan dynasty, Zhu established his capital in Nanjing and began a new era for China. The early years of Ming were marked by political stability and economic growth as the government encouraged agriculture and commerce. The capital city was moved to Beijing during Hongwu Emperor's reign, marking a significant turning point in Ming history.
Cultural Achievements
During this period, China experienced an unparalleled cultural flourishing. The printing technology invented during Song dynasty reached its peak with woodblock printing being widely used for books such as Confucian classics and Buddhist scriptures. This led to increased literacy rates among common people, contributing to a more educated society.
Military Expansion
Under the rule of Yongle Emperor (reign from 1402-1424), China witnessed significant military expansion through sea voyages initiated by Admiral Zheng He which connected China with Southeast Asia, India, Africa and even Europe via maritime trade routes.
Decline & Legacy
However towards end of 16th century due to internal conflicts like peasant uprisings such as Red Turban Rebellion or external threats like Manchu invasions coupled with corruption within imperial court leading to weak central authority resulted into decline of Ming empire eventually culminating into fall at hands of Manchu forces under Qing conquest.
