她出身贫寒，自幼因嗜好山歌与黄梅调而触犯了家族的规矩，因此离开了家乡。她的聪明才智和勤勉好学的性格让她在年纪轻轻时就展现出了非凡的天赋。13岁时，她投身于严云高老师的手中，开始学习唱黄梅戏。在枞阳、桐城等地，她以其纯真的音色和真挚的情感深受观众喜爱。
随后，她又得到了著名老艺人的丁永泉老师的指点，并在贵池、青阳农村以及安庆、皖南等地巡演。她不仅提升了自己的艺术水平，还扩大了自己的视野。在1947年，她曾跟随胡金涛、刘凤云老师学习京剧，这段经历丰富了她的表演技巧。而在1949年之后，她又拜入北昆名演员白云生老师门下，不断吸收各路兄弟剧种之长，以此来增强自身的表现力。
1953年，she joined the Anhui Province Huangmei Opera Troupe. Her voice was crystal clear and sweet, with a natural and round singing tone. She delivered her lines quickly and clearly, with a rich flavor that lingered in the hearts of audiences. Her performances were characterized by their simplicity and delicacy, as she brought to life many characters with distinct personalities.
She played roles such as Tao Jinhua in "The Battle for Pig Grass", Seven Fairy Maidens in "Heavenly Matchmaker", Feng Sufen in "The Lady-in-Waiting", Weaving Maiden in "Cowherd and Weaving Maiden", and Zhao Wushun in "After Harvest". Many of these performances were adapted into films, including those from "Heavenly Matchmaker", "The Lady-in-Waiting", and "Cowherd and Weaving Maiden". Over the course of 23 years, she made significant contributions to the development of Huangmei Opera art.
